A Guide to the Latest Fashion Trends
Being trendy is a fine line between downright tacky and the height of sartorial elegance, think of fashion in the 1970s! We see fashion models on the catwalk wearing clothes that no normal woman would ever wear. We see starlets walking around as though they shopped at the closest thrift store. We pour over magazines to find the perfect outfit or accessory to make us look modern, hip, or the ever popular trendy. We spend so much time trying to find the perfect look that we forget what is really important about fashion.
Fashion is supposed to accentuate our looks, make us look our best, and to hide our figure flaws. Personally, I believe in the fashion police. Who wouldn't enjoy giving a ticket to the girl with the baby T that accentuates the flabby stomach she should be trying to hide? Or the guy wearing pants that look sprayed on. Do your homework and then try on clothes and actually look at yourself in the mirror. Consider the basic clothes you want to wear such as jeans and then look for specific designer types to show you off best.Is that the image you want the world to see or are you simply trying to follow the latest fashion trends?
Fashion trends come and go, consider what was fashionable in the 1860's compared to the 1930's!. There are trends that are here today, and gone tomorrow, and though some years and decades stand out some of the most elegant ideas were in periods we sometimes forget like the fashion trends in the 1990s.. Then there are those that turn into classics and never go out of style. However also consider specific ideas for Fall, or winter and even ideas of fashion to accentuate certain personal features like red hair.Interested in finding out more about fashion trends? Read on for our guide to some of the best and worst trends so you'll always leave the house looking stylish:
Best Fashion Trends
Here are our picks for the top three fashion trends that can last the test of time and find a lasting home in your closet:
Empire Waists
When it comes to disguising those little bulges, empire waist tops and dresses are ideal. Any woman can look like a princess with a romantic empire waist top or dress. Also known as baby doll tops and dresses, the empire waist is gathered below the bust line and hangs in a flattering way over the waist. For a casual look, try a cute empire waist top in a classic color like white or black, paired with slim jeans and a pair of cute earrings. To take the empire waist into evening, choose a print dress in a fabric like satin and pair with strappy high heels.
Aviator Lenses
Angelina Jolie can be credited with making aviator lenses cool again. Most every face shape looks great in black aviator sunglasses. For a trendier take on this look, try glasses in a surprising shade like dark pink or smoky purple.
Gypsy Skirts
Long, flowing skirts in a lightweight fabric are versatile and feminine. For a bohemian look, pair a patterned gypsy skirt in a crinkly fabric with a sleek solid tank and pair of open-toe sandals. Or, try pairing your solid gypsy skirt with tall brown boots and a classic white Oxford blouse. Finish the look with a few strands of beads and you're all set!
Worst Fashion Trends:
Oversized Sunglasses
Nicole Ritchie and Mary Kate Olsen can be credited with introducing this unattractive sunglasses trend to the public. Oversize sunglasses give the face a bug-eyed look and overwhelm small features. Always choose frames that are balanced with the size and structure for your face, and stay away from monster frames as seen on some of today's young starlets.
Tights with Shorts
Sienna Miller - another celebrity that is guilty of exposing trends that should stay in the closet. One such trend is tights with shorts over top. Tights should be avoided at all costs, unless you're wearing them with a skirt and heels. Shorts are fine, just keep them at an acceptable length and don't put them over anything but your basic undergarments!
Micro Minis
Short skirts are fine, but the micro mini trend has gone a bit far. While you may see thigh-high skirts on the runway and television screen, don't follow this potentially embarrassing trend. Micro minis can easily turn into a wardrobe malfunction and aren't acceptable office wear. If you must wear a short skirt, save it for a night out.
